Windows Home Server

Windows Home Server Information, tips and tricks!

I connect to a server at work from home. When I use my desktop to connect I don’t hae any problems, but when use my laptop it says that it can’t communicate with my server. Why would it work on my desktop but not my laptop? I asked out IT guy at work and he thought it had something to do with my Internet provider, but I can’t figure out why it would work ok on my desktop and not my laptop. I set up the connection to not disconnect if it is idle. Does anybody have any ideas on what other things I can change on my laptop?

There is a 99% chance it is not your ISP. I would get a new IT guy if he is that stupid. If one computer is connecting it is never the ISP. I work at Windstream and every day we get stupid calls from IT guys saying it must be the connection. It has never once been the connection after 7 years at my job…when one computer is working. It has to do with the routing function of the router. The laptop is probably not picking up an ip address. Try repairing the Wireless connection and tell your IT guy to go back to school. No offense to you but the guy must still be in high school.
