I connect to a server at work from home. When I use my desktop to connect I don’t hae any problems, but when use my laptop it says that it can’t communicate with my server. Why would it work on my desktop but not my laptop? I asked out IT guy at work and he thought it had something to do with my Internet provider, but I can’t figure out why it would work ok on my desktop and not my laptop. I set up the connection to not disconnect if it is idle. Does anybody have any ideas on what other things I can change on my laptop?

I am planning on creating a home server to host private files and videos throughout my house and I was wondering if it would be possible to use the server to host the wifi connection in general as well. I have an internet modem that I can connect via ethernet to the back of the server, and I would like to use the server’s wireless card to transmit my home network and internet connection.
I had an general idea of bridging the connections because I know that it works in reverse: a laptop receiving internet wirelessly can bridge its wireless card with its ethernet port and then a wired device can have internet access through that port. I’m assuming doing the same can work in reverse, yet I do not know if it is possible to host a wireless network through the server’s wireless card.

We are converting our formal living room into a library with desks. Each desk will have a computer. Is it smarter to have them all on one server or have multiple towers and network them? The units will be 1) for my work and 2) & 3) for my young kids (whom I will want to supervise access on the internet closely).
We’re going with desk tops over laptops for upgrade-ability and I want them were I can see them. I admit to not knowing much about one option over another, any and all advice is welcome.
